TITLE: Maintenance Supervisor 1, SG-14
LOCATION/UNIT: Division of Sustainable Facilities & Operations - Cranberry Lake Biological Station
TITLE/SALARY GRADE: Maintenance Supervisor 1, SG-14
DURATION: Contingent Permanent
SALARY: $53,262 annual salary rate (NOTE: current or reconstructed salary for State employees in accordance with NYS Audit and Control)
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Supervise and coordinate the activities of skilled trade's employees and other workers in a variety of mechanical, electrical and building maintenance activities and road work, motor equipment operation and repair and grounds and custodial activities. Supervises and plans the work for subordinate staff and college operations as follows.
- Review job orders, blueprints, and specifications and, as required, visits the project site to determine dimensions, materials, and labor required to complete the project.
- Prepare rough sketches or plans to scale from oral or written instructions.
- Assign staff to the project and provides oral instructions and blueprints, specifications and plans.
- Meets with supervisors representing other trades involved in the project to coordinate activities and schedule work to be performed to ensure the effective utilization of staff, materials, and equipment and completion of the project on schedule.
- Observe and inspects work while in progress and when completed to make sure that specific codes and regulations are followed, materials and equipment are used properly, schedules are met, and work is performed according to plan.
- Inspect work performed by outside contractors to ascertain conformance with project specifications.
- Prepare and maintains written records of work performed and completed and accounts for labor and material used.
- Evaluate the work performance of subordinate employees.
- Perform the activities and tasks of specialized trades, including but not limited to Trades Specialist positions with a parenthetic designation, such as Carpenter, Mason and Plasterer, Electrician, and Plumber and Steamfitter
- Responsible for SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures), oversight, record retention, and training coordination with Environmental, Health and Safety Staff.
- Oversee the operation of the Water Treatment Plant (2A) and Wastewater Treatment Plant (lA).
This position is responsible for the continued sustainability of all the infrastructure at the Cranberry Lake Biological Station and Star Lake Marina. Additionally, this position maintains and ensures the operability of the boat fleet that supports the Biological Station. The incumbent supervises an extensive staff of seasonal employees including boat captains, cleaning personnel, construction trade generalists, maintenance assistants and is responsible for hiring and on-boarding adequate staff for each season. The position coordinates activities with the Facilities Supervisor for the Ranger School to maximize synergies between their two staffs. Coordination with the Academic Director of the Cranberry Lake Station and their staff are important to maintain a smooth-running summer program
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Non-competitive: one year of trade experience subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Trades Specialist (Carpenter), Trades Specialist (Electrician), Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics), Trades Generalist, Grounds Construction Supervisor, Trades Specialist (Locksmith), Trades Specialist (Machinist), Trades Specialist (Mason & Plasterer), Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Trades Specialist (Painter), Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter), Service & Repair Mechanic (HVAC-R), Trades Specialist (Roofing), or Trades Specialist (Welder).
OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
- 7:00am - 3:30pm Monday through Friday
- Full time position based on a 40-hour work week
- May be required to work overtime based on operational needs
- Overnight travel to regional and main campuses maybe required
- Valid NYS Driver's License
- Obtain a NYS Backflow Prevention License within one year. (Training & Reimbursement possible)
- Obtain a NYS Water Treatment, Type 2A operator certificate and the ability to maintain a NYS Water Treatment, Type 2A operator certificate within one year. (Training & Reimbursement possible)
- Obtain a NYS Wastewater Treatment Plant, Type lA operator certificate and the ability to maintain a NYS Waste water Treatment Plant, Type lA operator certificate within one year. (Training & Reimbursement possible)
- Joint Pilot and Engineers License from NYS Parks and Recreation: Marine Services (Training & Reimbursement possible)
- Operational Knowledge of various types of boats and engines
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy loads (15 - 50 lbs.) as well as follow written and verbal instructions
- Willingness to work in all types of weather conditions
