Position: Assistant Director SL3
Department: Student Accessibility Services
The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Canton invites qualified applicants for a full-time, 12-month position in the Student Accessibility Services Department beginning January 1, 2024.
Salary: $54,000
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Education, Psychology, Counseling, and/or Social Work and three years of experience working with people with disabilities, or equivalent.
Responsibilities:
· Support the Director in handling day-to-day duties, as well as coordinating the Electronic Information Technology Accessibility efforts on campus.
· Aid in the coordination and provision of accommodation services for all students with disabilities to include review, evaluation, and interpretation of documentation and the creation of accommodation plans for registered students with physical, learning and psychological disabilities.
· Serve as a liaison for students and their families; meet and assist with accommodations, academic performance, registration, and referrals to appropriate resources.
· Oversee the daily operation of adaptive/assistive technology accommodations for students with disabilities.
· Provide exam administration support to testing coordinator; including assistive technology, exam specific technology such as audio component to music, computer hardware, file/format manipulation, and file conversions for all exams.
· Obtain textbooks in alternate format as requested.
· Evaluate the assistive technology needs of students with disabilities and aid in selecting appropriate software and hardware that addresses their disability related needs to be compatible with their academic technologies.
· Initiate ideas and solutions and identify resources and best practices in working with students with assistive technology needs.
· Contribute to the ongoing development and modification of needs in assistive technology and academic technologies.
· Assist in the purchase of assistive technology for the department, including site-licensing and service maintenance agreements.
· Monitor student use of assistive technology devices, maintain records of service usage, and generate reports.
· Research best practices on accessibility in different learning platforms.
· Provide guidance around accessible and inclusive approaches to campus community members, increasing awareness of electronic information technology accessibility, and addressing barriers.
· Responsible for technical consultation in the accessible use of a variety of form factors such as mobile, tablet, and desktop workstations, electronic documents (e.g.,PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and online platforms.
